Girl Scout Ways

Today the girls had a chance to fulfill their job roles within the troop, which will change each meeting, giving girls a chance to learn all facets of our meetings.

Flag Bearer: Sarah
Opening: Naomi
Business: Terri
Activity: Micaiah (absent)
Closing: Emma (absent)
Clean-Up: Kaeli

Sarah was our flag bearer as we learned how to say the Pledge of Allegiance as a Girl Scout.

Naomi learned how to do opening by playing the Brownie Smile Song, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance, and both the Girl Scout Promise and Law.

Terri learned how to read the notes of our meeting, present topics and items for the girls participation. Topics included Investiture practice and planning, community service by donations for The Rainbow Room for the month of December, parade information, Rockbrook Elementary food drive, and voting on community service donations for Dec/Jan along with a craft activity towards a sewing patch.

All the girls got to read and learn what the Girl Scout Promise means, along with the traditional "Brownie Story." Everyone pitched in to bring craft supplies to the patio where girls made a colorful Thanksgiving decoration.

Kaeli was the last one working on her project, so Amanda and I picked up most of the materials after the activity. All the girls did a great job pitching in to clean up the things they played with in Kaeli's room prior to, and after the craft activity.

Closing was lead by Stephanie since Emma was absent - girls learned about the friendship circle, the friendship squeeze and got to sing "Make New Friends."

NEWS FOR PARENTS:
First off this is a lengthy bit of information, but I hope I've condensed each enough so that your not snoozin by the end, or not left with oodles of questions.

I need to ask each of you if changing our meeting times from 3:30 to 5pm, to 4:00 to 5:30pm is a possibility. We will not change if it's not in total agreement, but this would make it easier for some with regards to getting here so quickly after both school and work.

The local Girl Scout Service Unit 406 (our area of Lewisville/Highland Village) holds service project opportunities monthly. Items for donation are collected by leaders for turn at our monthly meeting. This month they are collecting baby items for The Rainbow Room. Girls were sent home with a paper with 3 types of items possible to donate and will earn a service badge for bringing in a donation.

I have submitted your paperwork for being a member of the Girl Scouts, this will cover you insurance wise when doing things with the troop. This however is one of the three steps. When time permits please visit http://www.gsnetx.org/applynow  and complete a volunteer application along with a criminal background check to complete this process. If you have any questions please let me know. If you've already completed this, then you're set to go.

The girls have an opportunity to be in the Lewisville Holiday at the Hall Christmas parade on December 4th. The parade starts at 2pm, but girls will need to be at the staging area by 1:15pm. Typical parade length is about an hour, but it depends on where we fall in the parade line.  I will need to know if you are interested in your daughter participating so she can be registered by the deadline. If you have completed the above steps for your registration, you are welcome to join us in this activity - just let me know as I have to give them a head count for both adults, and girls.

Next week flyers will go home from the school with regards to a food drive to stock the Rockbrook Elementary pantry before Thanksgiving. Bags have been kindly donated by Market Street and will go home with the flyers. Donations will be due back by Monday, November 15th. Girls will have a chance to wear their vest at school as we go around to collect all the food and sort it for distribution.

Girl Scout Brownie Troop #3532

We just got our troop number -- WOO HOO!

It's my hope that parents are just as excited as the girls for our Girl Scout troop. Most of you know that I've held special activities over the years for the kids. This includes school parties, as well as hosting crafts and camps at home. One area I did not succeed was providing opportunities to get the girls into outside environments to see what goes on in various places, behind the scenes, so to speak. Being in Girl Scouts will help us provide these unique opportunities for our children and I would like to thank each of you for joining our troop!

That said, I'd like to make it clear that we are open to suggestions from both parents and kids. This is your troop - and everyone will have equal say in the events and things that go on during the coming year.
